I Wish I Had Known Earlier...
The link between food and health and well-being.
One day I was eating pizza, burgers, and ice cream. The next day I was pondering, “What if…?” What if what my wife and I were eating had contributed to a life-changing medical diagnosis—breast cancer?
I had run a couple of marathons but constantly battled the 10-15 pounds I had gained since our wedding day. My wife could still wear her wedding dress and had enjoyed good health. It was unthinkable that we were on a collision course with a significant health challenge.
Little did we know that lurking unseen was a small life-changing problem that had remained hidden from yearly sophisticated medical testing. Even less could we have predicted the vital link between our diet and this all-to-common medical condition.
I had just left the practice of dentistry to attend the University of South Carolina Law School. We had the next phase of life all mapped out.
However, our dreams abruptly shifted from the halls of law school to Lexington Medical Center and various doctor’s offices and consultations.
I plunged into an ocean of medical research, fervently seeking answers. The revelation that shook me was the connection between diet and cancer. The research seemed to point to a link between the high consumption of animal products and cancer. But it wasn’t just about breast cancer; this link had been found with numerous diseases, including prostate cancer and other life-threatening conditions.
The more I learned, the broader my studies grew—spanning cardiovascular health to the gut microbiome. The data painted a clear picture: a plant-based diet was the cornerstone of a fortress of health we had yet to build.
My findings caused our overnight transformation to a plant-based diet and ignited a strong desire to share this tremendous news tucked away within medical journals.
Today, I stand as someone who has switched to a plant-based lifestyle, and I am an ardent advocate for the profound changes it brings. After channeling my passion into professional coach training with iPEC and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I’ve transformed my fervor into a mission: to empower and illuminate the path for others’ health and wellness.
